The proofreading element of LHK Proofreading is currently carried out by Louise Hill-King who has spent most of her career working for the NHS as a Senior Biomedical Scientist. During that time she has written and reviewed many documents such as Standard Operating Procedures. She has also proof-edited MSc and BSc dissertations for many colleagues. She is a fellow of the Institute of Biomedical Science (IBMS) and has Chartered Scientist status.
Louise's specialist subject is Medical Microbiology (MSc with Distinction from the University of Sheffield). She is also familiar with terminology from many other scientific and non-scientific disciplines (BSc in Chemistry and Astronomy with subsidiary of Pure Mathematics from the University of Sheffield). |
Louise was the sole author of a book chapter published by Oxford University Press for the Institute of Biomedical Science: Investigation of Respiratory Samples in Medical Microbiology, part of the Fundamentals of Biomedical Science series. Since 2008, Louise has been part of the editorial group of Microbiologist, the quarterly members' magazine of the Society for Applied Microbiology (SfAM).
Initially her role was Grants Editor, proofreading articles which had been submitted by recipients of the Society's many different grant award schemes. Typically these articles were written by junior members, including students and those for whom English was not their first language. Currently Louise is the Regular Content Editor of Microbiologist which primarily involves commissioning, editing and proofreading articles for the Careers and Historical Perspectives sections of the magazine. These articles are written by a diverse group of microbiologists with varying degrees of writing experience. In addition to this, she submits reports of the Society's scientific meetings. |
